Pharmacologic Pain Management

Pharmacologic pain management includes:

  • Consultation.
  • Manipulation of medications for a period up to six months under contract with the invasive pain specialist. During this time, it is understood that the patient would receive narcotics and control substances only from the invasive pain specialist. Also, that the specialist would try to incorporate procedures that would reduce the patient’s dependency upon medications for control pain.
  • Once the patient achieves stabilization of their pain and therefore medication use if any, they would then be referred back to the PCP. The PCP would then write for the necessary medications.
  • At any time, the patient can be referred back to the pain specialist for review and “tuning up”, i.e. manipulation of the patient’s medication or additional procedures.
